Obituary of Gladys Joan Standley

Gladys Joan (“Jo”) Standley of Maple Valley, WA, left this life on Thursday, August 28, 2014, in Auburn, WA. She was born to Milo and Esther (Barnett) Groat on February 23, 1928, in Emmett, ID. At the age of six, her family moved to Sequim where she attended Carlsborg, Dungeness and Sequim schools. In 1946 she married Dale R. Standley. They raised their nine children in Sequim until 1967 when they moved to Burien. She is survived by her husband, Dale R. Standley; their nine children, Dale Standley (Paula), Jack Standley (Agatha), Carol Pollak (Alec), Don Standley (Annie), Wendy Davidson (Doug), David Standley (Barb), Susan Nardone (Rich), Marla Turner (Mike) and Sharon Cooper (John); twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Bellmore (Herb); and many others who called her Auntie Jo, Grandma Jo and friend. She is predeceased by seven siblings; a son-in-law, Salvatore Nardone and one grandchild, DJ Nardone. She worked in the clam cannery and as a waitress, a pie-baker and a cake decorator, but her favorite roles were wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma. A memorial service in her honor will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 13, 2014, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 410 H Street SE, Auburn, WA 98002. Her final resting place will be at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Maple Valley.
