Sadly I just read of Jim's death today in the Seattle Times. Such a loss. I so enjoyed caring for him over the years, especially with his struggle with Amyloidosis. He remained positive no matter the circumstance, always looked to the future, and always carried a book. Safe passage friend.

Nancy and Jim's family, my heartfelt condolences on his passing. I met Jim in 5th grade at Vieau Elementary School. We played in the junior high band directed by Mr. Hornack. At South Division High School, I was able to join Senior Band as a freshman if I rented the school's baritone saxophone instead of playing my alto. Jim told me about The Milwaukee Militaires Drum and Bugle Corps and I joined. At the Corps Variety Show, Jim on trumpet and me with the baritone sax played The Main Title Theme from The Man With The Golden Arm. For my senior year, I transferred to Rufus King High School and so lost touch with my SDHS classmates. Fast forward to the 1990's and imagine my surprise when the guy sitting next to me at the Boeing thank you breakfast for Special Olympics volunteers was Jim.

Jim and I went to Vieau school together and then South Division. We played in the bands together. Jim introduced me to the Milwaukee Militaires Drum and Bugle Corps. Sorry I didn't do more with him, but from his obit, I see he kept busy.

Dear Nancy and family, Mike and I are so sorry for your loss of a wonderful man - husband, father, grandfather and a super nice neighbor to us. We always enjoyed chatting with Jim (and the two pups that were always with him) as we walked in the neighborhood. We looked forward to their appearance in front of our house as they walked by, and encountering them near your house as we walked up the hill. We saw and spoke to Jim often as he was going through his illness and he was always open and hopeful about the future. He was a pleasure to call a neighbor and friend! We truly wish he could have been with us longer - as I know you all dearly do!! We are comforted to know he is no longer ill or suffering, but is healthy and hearty and probably doing the things he loves with the Lord in Heaven. We will be praying for God's great comfort and presence with you as you walk through this difficult time of grief and life changes. God bless, lead and comfort you every hour and every day!! With love, Janice and Mike Heil

I was saddened to read about Jim’s passing. I had the opportunity to work for Jim and he gave me first job as a manager. We played softball together. He was kind, funny and a wonderful man. I hope you are doing ok Nancy.
