Obituary of Edward Curtis Dorn

Our Dad, Edward Curtis Dorn, passed away peacefully at 6:10 pm, May 10, 2021 surrounded by family. He was 84, born July 22, 1936 in Olympia, WA. Dad lived a full life raising 6 children with Barb Dorn. From oldest to youngest - Lani Marshall, Curt Dorn, Jeff Dorn, Lisa Sloan, Ken Dorn, and Linda Meyer. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren, a great grandchild extended family and many friends. Dad loved to be outdoors, the Puget Sound and Hawaii. He loved to swim, play his trumpet, fly-fish, ski and garden. He gathered and chopped a lot of wood, selling it by the chord. Helped neighbors with his tractor, tilling gardens and moving earth. He was our family’s videographer and photographer. Dad graduated from the College of Puget Sound (now UPS) in Tacoma, WA with a BS in Chemistry. He earned two masters; Genetics from the University of Hawaii (where Lei Lani was born) and the other for Mathematics from the University of Wyoming. All 6 kids and our Mom were with Dad at the UW, 8 people living in student housing. It was an adventure of a life time and a year we all will always cherish & never forget, Linda and Kenny maybe not so much, they were still babies ! “Mr. Wizard” taught Chemistry, Physics, Math & Biology at Federal Way High School for 30+ years. He ran the night time open gym and drove the emergency vehicle for the Federal Way Ski School. Dad also worked at Sears for over 25 years selling major appliances and electronics. Dad was one of the original board members and president for the “save the Hylebos bog” which is now “West Hylebos Wetlands” in South Federal Way. Dad retired to Roy, WA where he managed 7 lush acres of trails and a large vegetable garden. H Dad is gone but lives on through the life, love and legacy he gave us all. We see Dad in each other’s faces, eyes and smile, the Dorn genes are strong! We will miss you Dad, I love you, we love you. Yak at ya later.
