Obituary of Nancy Sue Mayfield

Nancy Sue Tucker Mayfield was born May 22, 1945, in Alpena, Michigan and passed away at her home in Kent, WA on July 17, 2021. Nancy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2012. She received exceptional care from Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Dr. Elena Gabriela Chiorean, her physicians and staff. Dr. Chiorean became Nancy's Superstar in this long journey. Natasha Ng's deep compassion as Clinical Nurse provider in Nancy's 9 year cancer battle is recognized and appreciated by her family. Nancy's rare cancer received extensive support from Novartis, a multinational pharmaceutical company based in Switzerland. We are truly grateful for the company's sharing of seminal treatments. A modern pioneer woman, Nancy left Michigan for Seattle to catch lightning in a bottle. She had three jobs performed exceptionally well. One was a homemaker for 54 years and she did truly make a home. Another was as a bookkeeper and cashier for 26 years. Third was a mother to her three boys and grandmother to her six girls. Job well done Nancy! She was predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Irene Tucker and siblings JoAnn, Dick, William, Jane, and Mary; and brother-in-law Jack A. Mayfield. Nancy is survived by Gene, husband of 54 years, sons Jeffrey (Paula), Michael (Melissa), Leland, brother Michael (Kathy), sisters Joyce (Arnie), Lois, sisters-in-law Donna Badder, Senator Maralyn Chase, Jan Yeager, cousins Doug (Shelley), Brian (Laurie), Tammie (Dick) niece Carin, great nephew Chase, granddaughters Fiona, Jessica, Miller, Mallory, Molly, Micayla, many nephews, nieces, and cousins in Hubbard Lake and throughout Michigan and a boatload of friends. “Its the not the destination, it’s the journey.” Second only to spending time with her granddaughters, her joy was camping with friends for over 50 years. Grayland, Big Creek, Kalaloch, Shangri-La, Corral Pass, Oregon coast, across Canada twice, eh, the US many times, Neah Bay to San Diego, Dodge City steaks, Graceland, the Amish craftsmen, Grand Ole Opry, Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water, Sault Ste. Marie, Hearst Castle, Arches NP, beautiful Hubbard Lake Michigan, Wow! A private family service will be held to scatter Nancy's ashes and set her free. Please consider a donation to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in Nancy's honor. This was about a petite woman. Nancy was a great cook, reigning as the "Chili Queen". She will be missed. A lot.
