Obituary of William E. Schunzel

William E. Schunzel, 1920-2010, passed peacefully at home Saturday, January 16, leaving an amazing legacy of 9 children, 23 grandchildren, and 22 greatgrandchildren. Bill is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 68 years, and his sister, Ellen (Schunzel) Glenn, and his nine children, Tom (Cathy), Jane (Pat) O’Neil, Kathy (Jay) Hagelin, Barbara, Susan, Jim (Tammy), Bob, Mary Jo (John) Rivera, and Joe (Susie). Dad was an inspiration to those who knew and loved him and his wisdom, strength, and sense of humor will be deeply missed. Born in Seattle, Washington, he proudly served in the US Army during WWII. He loved gardening, traveling with Mary in their RV, dancing, fishing, music, learning, and sharing stories. Family always came first for Dad, he was our greatest teacher and staunchest supporter. He lived his life with love, integrity, honesty, loyalty and optimistic perseverance. The family would like to express its gratitude to Karen Knight and Swedish Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Dad in his last days. Memorial contributions may be made to Swedish Hospice, Holy Family Parish or the American Lung Association. Rosary will be held at Holy Family Parish in Auburn, Friday, Jan. 22, 7:00pm. Funeral Mass and Celebration of Bill’s life will be at 11:00am with reception to follow, Friday, Feb. 26th, Holy Family Parish, Auburn.
