Obituary of Mary F. Schunzel

Mary Frances (Crilly) Schunzel, 1921-2010, passed peacefully at home Friday, May 21, to join her loving husband of 68 years, Bill. Mary is survived by her nine children, Tom (Cathy), Jane (Pat) O’Neil, Kathy (Jay) Hagelin, Barbara, Susan, Jim (Tammy), Bob, Mary Jo (John) Rivera, and Joe (Susie), as well as her 23 grandchildren, and 22 great grand children. Mom had an infectious laugh, indomitable spirit, a generous heart, and will be greatly missed. Born in Sac City, Iowa, she grew up on the family farm in Newell, IA, graduated at 16, and moved to Seattle to attend Seattle College School of Nursing. She loved traveling with Bill in their RV, dancing, and playing cards. She instilled in all of us a strong sense of service, always helping out neighbors, volunteering at church, and lending a helping hand wherever needed. Mom was proud of each one of her children and loved to be surrounded by her grandkids. She lived her life with love, humor, honesty, steadfast faith and fierce determination. “Her value is far beyond pearls. She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy. She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs at the days to come. She watches the conduct of her household, and eats not her food in idleness. Her children rise up and praise her; her husband, too, extols her. Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all.” Proverbs 31 The family would like to express its gratitude to Karen Knight, Federal Way Comfort Keepers, and Swedish Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Mom in this last year. Funeral Mass and Celebration of Mary’s life will be Monday, July 19, 2010, St. Andrew Church, Sumner, 11:00 am with reception to follow.
