Obituary of Ruth C. Stump

Ruth C. Farmer Stump was the second daughter of four girls born to Stella Louise and Howard Farmer. She was born on August 31, 1909 in Seattle and died at the age of 96 in Tacoma on November 30, 2005. At her request she was cremated, and her ashes will be scattered over the graves of her husband Bill and granddaughter, Susan Gilbert in Ketchikan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Sylvia, Audrey and Louise. She is survived by her son Wilfred Clark Stump and his wife Dianne, her daughter Audrey Louise Gilbert and her husband John, her daughter Pamela June Hansen and her husband Del, and Christopher Keith Stump and his wife Gillian. She left seven living grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and four in-law children. She left three nieces and a nephew, and many grand nieces and nephews. Ruth grew up in Seattle and attended college at Washington State College and the University of Washington, graduating with a bachelor of arts in English. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Ruth married Wilfred Charles Stump on July 27, 1934 and shortly thereafter moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, which became their home for most of Ruth’s life. She returned to Washington in 1998 and lived in Bellevue and Lynnwood before finally moving to her daughter Pam's home in Tacoma, where she lived for the last five months of her life. Ruth was a member of the Episcopal Church, and PEO. She devoted her life to her husband and raising her children, but worked occasionally as a substitute teacher in Ketchikan. Her greatest love was her family, and she was happiest in their company. She enjoyed traveling, playing social and competitive bridge, and played cribbage with her family up to the last week of her life. Ruth was blessed with a loving and generous heart that left a lasting impression on those she knew. She was a gracious lady who will be greatly missed by the many lives she touched over five generations. Memorial Services will be held on Friday December 9, 2005 at 1:30 PM at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 11526 162nd Ave NE, Redmond, WA In lieu of flowers memorials may be to your favorite charity.
