Dick Won't ever forget our wonderful trips to Reno, California, San Juan Campground, Camping, and of course, Crater Lake. Also, the fun with Bowling, "when you were the only one who came to bowl". Especially miss your contagious smile and your greeting to Marianne, Hello, Smiley and Jim's special greeting to you, "Hi, Big Dick". Will miss your special touch in the garden, and who's going to give us vegetables this summer? We Love You Dick and will miss you terribly. Love Forever, Jim and Marianne

Continued from previous post: Tracey climbing over your back fence to stave off starvation. Fishing on the Sound during the Boeing salmon tournament. Steelheading on the Green River, I still have one of your poles. You and Dad arriving in the old Jeep pickup after a three hour drive, 105 degrees in the shade, to hook up the boat when my truck died in the middle of eastern Washington. Christmas Eve, with a beer, sitting on the couch just talking. The SMILE, always the SMILE. Does anyone not remember Charlie the Horse? Dick, you’ll be missed but always remembered.

Too many memories: The canoe adventure down the Cle Elum River, mostly without the canoe. Yellowstone, bears, skunks and you wouldn’t let me go in the boat to catch the big ones. ‘Catching’ wild animals at the house on 256th. Grass soup you convinced was actually edible food at the Boy Scouts Jamboree (you should be ashamed of taking advantage of such gullible and easy targets). Camping, the army surplus tent and equipment. How did you always pick the rainiest weekend? Sitting with you in the cold, our hands freezing from evaporating gas, as we cleaned engine parts for the overhaul of that Studebaker at the house on 16th. First time I heard you use a word I’d never even heard Grandpa use. You knew the very best swear words. Making us kids walk around that same house outside, barefoot, on the rocks, in our underwear… in the rain…at night. Making all those damn campaign signs by hand in your garage – twice, maybe three times. Saving my life when I came home one day at the advanced age of 14 or 15 and proclaimed I was going to join the Marines and fight Communism. First time you ever told me anything about the war – scared the hell out of me and gave me a whole new appreciation of what it means to be a Vet. CONTINUED on next entry
