I just returned from a walk along Bayshore Spit here on Lopez Island, and I still miss seeing neighbors Mary and Dick along that beautiful stretch of water. Our thoughts are summed up by the Mizpah Benediction: "May the Lord watch between me and thee, while we are absent one from another."

Mary was a wonder woman and so warm hearted and generous. She lived life fully and with kindness. I first met Mary when we were designing a community garden on Lopez. She wanted to grow peony in the community garden because it was sheltered from the salt spray. She became a leader in the garden as she did in many other Lopez ventures. She and Dick were greatly missed when they left the island 5 years ago and our hearts go out to Dick and Mary's family. What a lovely person to have blessed our lives.

Dear Dick, Brenda, Bill, David and Deb. Mary was a wonderful person. She was adventurous, fun-loving, very friendly and deeply caring. Of course you know of what I speak. A while back, I was reading all of the Christmas notes that Mary and Dick sent to us. She inspired me to get out there and live life, seek adventure and be generous with love and action. I will truly miss her. She was one of a kind. Wendy

Thank you for all our wonderful memories of Murtle Lake canoe trips, skiing adventures, shared birthday celebrations, morning breakfasts and Lopez Island sleep-overs to name just a few! And of course, the pickles! You will be greatly missed. Love you always!
