It's 2021 and I graduated in 1970...all these years I've been driving and Blessed with a clean record;) I always remember what my driving teacher said to me...."When in doubt, turn your lights on"...thank you Mr. Galli for making that class the best! I'm so glad you lived into the 2000's~

Dorothy, Kathi and family - I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Galli's passing. He was such a big part of my life in younger years - he was my bus driver and driver's ed teacher. It's really the end of an era, since he taught probably thousands of Auburn teenagers to drive in the 1950's and 1960's. He was always so patient with Kathi and her dippy friends (like me) and the general foolishness of young girls. He was a good man and he will be missed.

Although I knew who Arnie was over 30 years ago when going to Auburn high school, I didn't get to know him until his grandson Ryan and my daughter Andrea met and eventually married. What a very sweet man he was, he always had a big smile and a warm heart. He welcomed my daughter into the family with warmth and love. You could see the affection he had for his grandkids and they for him. Family was everything to him. Arnie will be greatly missed by many and never forgotten. God bless you Dorothy and to all the family.

Our community has been blessed greatly by a man of charactor, integrity and his faith was an inspiration to many. Through the antique cars and "Good Old Days" which we shared in the parade each year. Our granddaughter and Arnie's grandson were married in historic Neely Mansion.

I am Arnolds granddaughter. I feel so blessed to be a part of this great family. Papa and Grandma did a good job holding us all together. He made me proud to be a Galli. My faith is strong that he is in a wonderful place where he can hear and be apart of all the conversations he so likes. I loved hearing so many wonderful stories that I hadn't heard before. We will miss you. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Laura, Chris, Cameron and Chandler Kast

Dearest Dorothy and family, Although I only knew Arnie for about 1/3 of his life, I certainly felt blessed to have been acquainted with him for that time. The stories he could tell me abou the post WWII days of driving school bus in Auburn always fascinated me. Driving school bus seemed to be our common bond and of course we went to the same barber for many years. If there was a spell where I wouldn't see Arnie, I could always count on Bill the barber to bring me up to date. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and all the familhy. The service at Messiah Lutheran Church was a wonderful tribute to a very fine man. It was after I arrived back at home, that it hit me that is 93 plus years here on this Earth were so final. My blessings go out to all of you, Deane Davies, Bus #13, Auburn School Dist. #408

My sincere and heartfelt sympathy is with Kathi, Chris, and Ryan Englehart, and I also extend the same to Arnie Jr. & Larry, and their families, and Dorothy. It is truly amazing how limited our time is in this existence, but equally amazing what we acquire and are left with after the passing of a love one. Rest in Peace Arnold - Your Journey was long. So many wonderful memories of Arnie and sister Florence: Playing baseball in Galli’s field; Going to the fair with Florence, Ida (Dykstra), Mary and Fran (Repovs); Renting the hall at Star Lake for neighborhood Halloween parties; Dances at the Spanish Castle; My dad riding to work with Arnie; Miss Leonard, the Home Ec teacher at Auburn High School talking about the wonderful young man in her cooking class—yes, it was Arnold.

Yesterday I had tears in my eyes all day after reading the morning paper. I’m sure there will be many remembrances, but my thoughts kept returning to those wonderful days of the old neighborhood on South 307th Street, living across from the Gallis with the school bus parked in front of their house. Those carefree days that no one who wasn’t raised in the 1950’s can ever know--playing with Sharon and Larry through the long summer months that never seemed to end; watching the haying in Galli's field; Paul, Dick, and Arnie Jr. (“Sonny” to me,) playing monopoly in our utility room on Saturday mornings. Why they came to our house I don’t know, but that’s how it was then. We were all just one big happy family sharing each other’s joys and sorrows--the funny things, like the time Dykstra’s cows got loose on their way across town, running all over the neighbor’s yards; and the sad times, like when the Swanson barn burned down. It’s so true that we don’t appreciate what we have until we don’t have it any more. It won’t be the same around Auburn without bumping into Arnold. I last shared a moment with him at Sandy Iwai’s funeral at the Buddhist temple. I thought how like him to be there to honor a lifelong friend. To say that he was a great man and will be missed is an understatement. There are no words to describe losing a member of “our” family.

Mr. Galli was a kind, generous, and brave teacher and friend to many in Auburn. I use the word "brave" as he taught many young people the skills to navigate the highways...both in life and literally! I will never forget his generous spirit and bright smile. My sincerest sympathies to all of the Galli family.

My grandpa was by far one of the most important people in my life. I can honestly say that if anyone knew him that it was an honor and a joy to be in his presence. The things my grandfather taught me will always be with me and I look forward to passing his morals and values on to my family. I will truly miss all the good times that I was able to share with him, but I know he is proud of me and that he will be with me the rest of my life. Ryan

I am Arnold Galli's daughter. My dad loved the Auburn community so much and all the wonderful people that came into his life. It is so amazing to our family how many people loved him. He raised his children to love the Lord and raised us with strong values. He has left behind an amazing legacy. He was the foundation of our family. I know our lives will never be the same without him and his shoes could never be filled, we'll leave them just the way they are, full of love, happiness, fullfillment and honor. We are all going to miss our Papa. Thank you for all of your prayers and condolences.

So sorry to hear about Arnie. We see the house empty and haven't seen Arnie in so long. Missed the 4th of July at the park this year so I didn't know if he was there with one of his cars. We always stopped and said hello and waved at him on the tractor in the parade. Years ago the kids liked to say hello as they got off the bus each day. Sometimes he gave them an apple. We miss him as our neighbor, and we're saddened about the news. Neighbors below (and in front), Shelly, Darrell Clair and family

He set a great example and lived his life to the fullest. I remember him well during our school days, I didn't ride his bus, but Audrey did! Like so many others, I have very fond memories of Mr. Galli who was my bus driver when I was in junior high school. Plus, I was a classmate of Arnold, Jr.! Arnold Galli, Sr. is definitely an Auburn icon and will long be remembered by those whose lives were touched by him in one way or another.

Just a few memories: I was 15 years old and I had a man teaching me to drive, yep, it was Mr. Galli. I rode my bike to class during the summer of 1973 to AHS. I wasn't afraid of driving, as he made it seem easy. I remmber driving Hwy 167, when it was a shorter road, and he said go faster, the speed limits were just changed to 55 mph and I thought I better not go faster, but he said, "you have to learn to drive faster, as the speed limits will go up someday." He was right. I had a junior and senior in the car with me. I drove the best of us 3, except for a 4 speed. He said I should never buy one, sorry I had 2! I'm also a member of Messiah. I used to always say "hi" to my teacher when I saw him at church during these last 30 years. He will be missed by this student. Helen
